Cats Online is the web site of Cats Protection Headquarters. Looking for help and advice on caring for your cat? - why not take a look at Caring for Cats and choose from our comprehensive range of Care Guides which cover almost every aspect of cat welfare.

Find out about our work, read the latest news from the Charity and explore the many ways in which you can assist Cats Protection in helping stray, needy and unwanted cats.

For our younger visitors we have games, puzzles, stories and prize competitions at The Kitten Club (although aimed at junior net surfers, we'd advise all visitors to check out the Kitten Club Funny Cat Photo series, and try their hand at Guess My Name). THE CINNAMON TRUST was registered in 1985 in response to a very particular need which, until then, had been ignored, dismissed or both. The need was an interlinked human/animal one. Cinnamon Trust is the specialist national charity for elderly or teminally ill people and their companion animals. We have an established national network of some 4,500 registered volunteers. All volunteers are tasked from our headquarters in Cornwall and all help in the ways that are most appropriate to them. Teams take it in turn to visit housebound owners, to take dogs for daily walks; volunteers foster pets as one of their family when owners face a spell in hospital, they take pets to the vet, they go and buy the cat food, clean the budgie's cage out.

We can tackle any problem posed in day to day care of pets. We have established a national register of nursing homes, residential homes, sheltered housing for the elderly that will accept residents and their pets. To date we know of 820 such places and, in order to promote this practice and reward it, we organise an annual "Pet Friendly Care Home of the Year Award". I think it is safe to say that any elderly pet owner too frail to stay in their own home need now no longer fear they will be parted from their much loved and needed pet.

bluecross

The Blue Cross provides a veterinary service for animals whose owners cannot afford private veterinary treatment. This service is particularly important to the most vulnerable such as the elderly or disabled who may rely on their pets for companionship. Qualified veterinary staff carry out thousands of consultations each year in our hospitals and clinics.

PETSEARCH(UK)
Petsearch(UK) was founded in February 1990 by Paula and Harry Greaves of Solihull because some animals were being destroyed when their owners were unable to locate them within the statutory 7 days grace before death or resale.

They felt that a central point registering all information on lost or found pets was badly needed. They offered this FREE SERVICE 7 days a week but the demand escalated to such an extent that Volunteers had to be sought for other areas - and so a National Network of Petsearchers came into being.

petplan
Patsy Bloom and David Simpson founded the Petplan Group in October 1976 when Patsy discovered for herself the high cost of veterinary care. She developed a totally new concept offering private animal health insurance, and Petplan was formed.

Since then, Petplan has gone on to become the leader in the pet health insurance industry with a 42% market share and in excess of 500,000 animals insured. Petplan receives over 1000 claims per day and pays out approximately £650,000 each week. In 2000 Petplan's Gross Premium Income will approach £65m.

The company was purchased in 1996 by leading insurance group, Cornhill Insurance - the company that has underwritten Petplan's policies since January 1994 and well known through their sponsorship of Test Match Cricket.
